Abstract

This study is titled Code Mixing Used by Bajo Speakers in Pulau Gala Village, Joronga Island Sub-District. This study aims to describe (1) how people in Pulau Gala Village mix Indonesian kke vocabulary in Bajo language and (2) to identify what factors influence the occurrence of code mixing in Bajo language. The data taken in this study are oral speech of the people of Pulau Gala Village, using sociolinguistic approaches such as situations when people are interacting with each other. Data was collected using observation, field notes, recordings, surveys, and documentation techniques, the data was analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the language used by the Gala Island Village speaking community was Bajo language, it's just that the Bajo language they used experienced a mixture of codes between Bajo, Indonesian, and Terante Malay, where when they interacted with each other there was a slip of Indonesian and Ternate Malay in their speech. The factors that influence the occurrence of code mixing are multilingualism, education, technology, and age factors. The conclusion in this study shows that the language used by the people of Gala Island Village experienced a mixture of codes, this can happen because the community is able to master more than two languages so that it can trigger code mixing while at the research location, researchers found three language uses used by the local community. There are also several factors that influence the occurrence of code mixing, including multilingialism, education, technology, and age factors. Keywords: Code Mixing, Sociolinguistics, Language Use.
