Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify liberal feminism contained in the novel Queen Charlotte by Julia Quiin and Shonda Rhimes. The aims of this study to examine: 1) How is liberal feminism portrayed on the characters of Charlotte and Agatha in the novel Queen Charlotte by Julia Quiin and Shonda Rhimes, and 2) How does the impact of liberal feminism on the characters of Charlotte and Agatha in the novel Queen Charlotte by Julia Quiin and Shonda Rhimes. This study used Marry Wollstonecraft's theory of liberal feminism to understand liberal feminism in the novel queen charlotte. In liberal feminism, women should have the same rights and opportunities as men. For this reason, liberal feminism can be seen from the characters of Charlotte and Agatha. Charlotte and Agatha are female characters who represent liberal feminism by utilizing their opportunities to get equal education, and fight for the right for women to be able to think rationality and critically and fight for women's individual rights in this case women can also be involved in politics. This research used descriptive method. The results of this study are researchers found that first, liberal feminism is clearly illustrated in the characters of Charlotte and Agatha who can prove that women can get an equal education, women deserve the same right to think rationally and not look weak, and women must be involved in politics. Second, the researcher found that the impact of liberal feminism itself makes people respect charlotte and agatha because they have an equal education with men, researchers also found that because of her intelligence, independence, and political participation makes charlotte get an important role in the kingdom, researchers also found that the impact of liberal feminism on agatha's character is that agatha gets an important role in the kingdom because of her intelligence, rational attitude, and involvement in politics.
