Abstract

This research aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of Personal Deixis in the Betawi language, addressing two main objectives: explain the forms of Personal Deixis present in Betawi, and analyze the ways in which Personal Deixis is utilized within the linguistic context in pragmatic approach To achieve these objectives, the researcher adopts a qualitative descriptive as research method. The primary techniques include meticulous observation, in-depth interviews with native speakers, and thorough documentation analysis. The data collected is subjected to a rigorous analysis process, involving classification, transcription, and in�depth linguistic scrutiny. The findings of this study reveal of forms for personal deixis in the Betawi language, encompassing seven distinct categories. These include; 'Gua' and 'Aye' as I representing the singular first person for example ‘Gua makan bae’ and ‘Aye pegi dulu beh’, 'Elu/lu' as You for the singular second person for example ‘Elu belangsak bener’, 'Dia' as He,She,It for the singular third person for example ‘Die galak bet yak’, 'Kite' as We for the plural first person for example ‘Kite mao pegi kemane nih?’ , 'Lu pada' as you for the plural second person for example ‘Lu pada ngapa si!?’, and 'Mereka' They for the plural third person for example ‘Mereka ngeselin dah’. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the linguistic with pragmatic approach of the Betawi language, shedding light on the various forms and usage patterns of Personal Deixis.
