Abstract
ABSTRACT SOAMOLE HASNAWATI 2019:AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG USED BY THE CHARACTERS IN RAMOONA AND BEEZUS MOVIE, Thesis: English Education Study Program, Language and art Education Department, Teachers Training and Education, Khairun University. This research was conducted to investigate the types and meanings of slang langugae in the movie entitled Ramona and Beezus Movie. This use decriptive qualitative method in conducting the research. The source of the data was obtained from movie and the dialogue script. In clssify the types of slang language, researcher adopted theory from Allan and Burridge(Types of slang language) and Leech (meaning of slang). Based on the data analysis from Ramona and Beezus movie the researcher find two findings. The first finding was the slang types. This movie employs four types of slang which are fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, and clipping. In this movie there were 25 slang words, 11 words categorized into fresh and creative types, 4 words categorized into flippant type, 6 words categorized into imitative types, and 4 words categorized into clipping types. There are three types meaning of slang word used by the characters Ramona and Beezus movie are denotative, connotative and reflective meaning. There are 12 slang words use connotative meaning, 11 slang word use denotative meaning, and 2 slang word use reflective meaning. Meaning of slang are dominated uses is connotative meaning, and the fewest meaning of slang used is reflective meaning. Key Words: Slang, Types of Slang, Meaning of Slang
