Abstract
Indonesia is a country located in a tropical climate region and is the largest archipelago in the world. The country has 13,466 islands with a coastline of 99,093 kilometers. In Ternate City itself, there are many types of healthy coral reefs as well as damaged ones, caused by human activities that should instead protect and preserve them. Restoring these reefs involves providing information about the types of coral reefs that need to be protected and preserved through the presentation of information in map form. Mapping the types of coral reefs in the beach tourism areas of Ternate City aims to show the condition of the coral reefs and display the locations of these areas. Therefore, the use of a Geographic Information System (GIS) is necessary. The system uses the prototype method, starting with data collection based on customer needs for the developed software to ensure that the built system meets user requirements. The result of the development of the geographic information system for the distribution of coral reef types in Ternate City shows the diversity of coral reef types. Several dominant types of coral reefs found at Jikomalamo Beach, Falajawa Beach, and Nukila Park include Acropora Elegantula, Montipora Danae, Acropora Micropthalma, Acropora sp, Acropora xv Humilis, Platygyra lamellina, and Pocillopora verrucosa, which are located at Falajawa Beach, each at a depth of approximately 3-10 meters from the sea surface. This diversity indicates a rich and diverse marine ecosystem in the tourist areas of Ternate City. Keywords: Geographic Information System, Coral Reefs, Distribution, Website.
