Ramlia Rakib, 2025. Thesis. ‘Improving Students‘ Descriptive Text Writing Skills through Picture at SMP Negeri 6 Kota Ternate’. English Education Study Programme, Khairun University. (Supervisor I) Drs Sutaryo, M.Ed., TESOL., M.Ed (Supervisor II) Abdulhalim Daud, S.Pd., M.Pd. This study aims to improve students' ability in writing descriptive text through the use of pictures as media in class VIII SMP Negeri 6 Kota Ternate. The research method used was quantitative with a pre-experimental design, which involved pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The sample of the research consisted of 20 students. Furthermore, students' writing skills were assessed by considering the Content, Organization, Vocabulary, Grammar, And Mechanics. The students' writing drafts were analyzed for students' writing skill improvement. The results showed a significant increase in the student's average score from 56.5 in the pre test to 78.85 in the post-test. Statistical analysis using the t-test showed a calculated t-value of 4.36 which is greater than the t-table value at the 0.05 significance level (1.72913). Thus, the Alternative Hypothesis (HI) is accepted, i.e. picture media is effective in improving students' ability in writing and the Null Hypothesis (HO) is rejected. This proves that the use of picture media is effective in improving students' writing skills, especially in writing descriptive text. Keyword: Writing skill, descriptive text, picture as media
