Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the author describes the construction of the adventure plot and the depiction of the hero character in the novel "The Jungle Book" by using Cawelti's Adventure Formula as a theory and Hourihan's supporting theory to see the character of the hero in the novel. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method, namely describing the data narratively and then analyzing it based on theory. The data analysis technique is based on reading comprehension by means of classification, interpretation and explanation. Data collection in this study is based on data sources from the novel "The Jungle Book" by Rudyard Kipling. The results obtained are the novel "The Jungle Book" contains a formulation of an adventure plot pattern based on the theory used, namely the first is Mowgli as a hero who is left alone in the jungle so that he is adopted by wolves and introduces events before the hero's journey begins, the second is the danger obstacles when Mowgli is kidnapped by the Monkeys and when he faces Shere Khan, the third is victory when Mowgli manages to defeat his enemy. As well as the character of Mowgli who is presented as a hero who is brave to protect his family and friends, and resolve the threats facing the jungle from the enemy Shere Khan. Kipling also describes Mowgli's intelligence in formulating ideas to trap his enemy Shere Khan. The last is the winner character which includes moral values when Mowgli manages to make his family or the Wolf Pack believe in him. He managed to win the hearts of people who had doubted humans from the start and finally Mowgli showed that he was able to do it. Keywords: Adventure Formula, Plot, Hero, Character.
