Abstract
This research focuses on the use of slang in the Hip-Hop community in the city of Ternate which is formulated in two problem formulations, namely the types of use of slang in the hip-hop community in the city of Ternate and the meaning of slang used by the hip-hop community in the city of Ternate. The method used in this research is the Qualitative Descriptive Method, which goes through 4 stages starting from data collection, data reduction, and data presentation to concluding the final stage to answer the problem formulation outlined from the start. The data collection techniques used are observation and interviews. The results of this research show that the use of Slang in the Hip-Hop Community itself is certainly influenced by several factors, one of which is the adaptation of Hip-Hop culture which is taken from songs that are popular in the Hip-Hop music community. Most of the slang used also generally comes from Ternate Malay which is a common lingua franca used by the community and a small part is a mixture of Ternate Malay and Indonesian. The use of Slang in this Community is very dynamic because every individual has creativity and the ability to create new Slang words which is proof that language tends to change over time. Keywords: Slang, Hip-Hop, Ternate
