Abstract

This study aims to improve students' listening use songs from students’ of SMP Negeri 39 Halmahera Barat. This research is to find out the influence of songs in improving their listening ability, and to find out how these songs can improve students' listening comprehension in obtaining these data, the research conducted a pre-experiment research at SMP Negeri 39 Halmahera Barat involving 25 students in the class VIII. The author uses one type of pre-experiment teaching, namely one group design pre-test and post-test. The results show that there is a significant increase in students' listening comprehension by using songs as media. This was found by comparing the pre-test and post-test. The average pre-test value 42,4 (poor) while the post-test average value is 89,4 (very good). Based on the data obtained, the authors conclude that students' listening comprehension increases after being taught to use songs as media, students are also interested and motivated in the listening process , by choosing Mariah Carey songs and Karri Kimmel, it is very helpful in improving students' listening abilities.
