Abstract

SRISASMITA S.SIRAJU, 2024. This title: Code-Switching Analysis in English Learning Process SMP Negeri 15 Kota Ternate (A Sociolinguistic Study). Supervisor by Sutisno Adam, S.S., M.Hum and Sartika Putri Sailiddin, S.Pd., M.A. English Literature Study Program Faculty of Cultural Science Khairun University. This research is entitled Code Switch Analysis in English Learning Process at SMP Negeri 15 Kota Ternate (A Sociolinguistic Study). The objectives of this study are (1) To describe the function of code switching used in the English learning process at SMP Negeri 15 Kota Ternate, (2) to identify the types of code switching used in the English learning process at SMP Negeri 15 Kota Ternate. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. The purpose of this method is to help develop research data. Researchers used simple random sampling technique to determine research subjects. To collect data, researchers used observation, recordings, videos, and interviews. The results of this study show that, (1) there are three types of code switching used in the English learning process: Tag Switching, Inter-Sentential Switching and Intra-Sentential Switching. (2) There are three functions of code switching namely: Topic switch, affective function and repetitive function. (3) all participants stated that code switching can help them in the process of learning English. It can be concluded that the use of code switching is quite effective in the teaching and learning process at SMP Negeri 15 Kota Ternate.
