Abstract
The results obtained in this research show that in the process of improving the fishermen tradition of the Bajo Tribe in Sula, it is not much different from the Bajo Tribe in other places. The process starts from making boats, providing fishing gear and traditions that must be carried out by the Bajo tribe before looking. The Bajo people’s life is very close to the sea. The sea is seen as a culture (tradition) in itself which refers to the belief and practices that regulate the relevant areas of human life, including the way in which these cultures and traditions of the sea are conceptualized, constrained, structured and well regulated so that they are always preserved to the next generation. The culture and traditions that exist in the Bajo people include: Palilibu tradition, this tradition is the habit of going to sea using a Soppe boat that is driven by rowing. The tradition of Bapongka (Babangi) is an activity to go to sea for several weeks and even months using a large boat measuring approximately 4 × 2 meters called Leppa or Sopek. Nyanya Okang fishing tradition is a tradition and ritual that aims at traditional medicine by worshiping the ruler of the sea and his twin brother (Kaka). The Maduai Kaka tradition is a traditional healing that is believed to be caused by the Kaka. The tradition of going to sea in Kutta is carried out when fishermen are lost under the swift currents, relatives will feed the kaka to find or bring the fisherman home. The Sangkine tradition is a tradition carried out on pregnant women whose fetuses are not developing. The foreign tradition is to heal someone who is affected by witchcraft. The tradition and culture of death, the tradition of lowering new boats, this custom is a form of respect for the Bajo people of the sea rulers (Mbombongana Lao) so that they always get a lot of sustenance, get calm and peace, and protection from Mbombongana Lao while doing fishing activities. In the tradition of fishing in the traditions of the Bajo people, there are several traditions and cultures that have been lost and some have changed such as changes in livelihoods, changes in educational orientation, changes in settlements, housing conditions, traditions and culture of fishing, Iko-iko art, marriage traditions and Duata traditions or rituals
