Abstract
This study examines three selected poems by Edward Estlin Cummings, namely "[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in]", "[love is more thicker than forget]", and "[somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond]". The purpose of this analysis is to identify the features of romanticism and the way romanticism is portrayed in the three poems.. The source of data used in this study was poetry. Researchers choose to use qualitative descriptive research methods to analyze data. Data was collected through library research, reading comprehension, internet browsing, and analyzing with a romantic approach in literary works. To classify the characteristics of romanticism in three poems of Edward Estlin Cummings using the theory of William Wordsworth.. There are seven characteristics of romanticism in William Wordsworth's theory. The results of this study found four characteristics of romance in three Cummings poems, and four on romantic depictions in this study. Through these three poems, E.E. Cummings describes love as something powerful, natural, complex, and admirable, and explores the depth of emotion and intimacy in human relationships. Keywords: Romanticism, Characteristics, Poetry.
