These four aspects are very important in identifying elements of the classical detective formula in the story. The entire story of Crooked House provides further understanding of the classical detective formula. The most interesting finding from this story is the unexpected plot at the end of the story which is far from being the suspect but turns out to be the criminal of the crime that occurred. The investigation process was futile and ended with the suspect's confession. The Second, there are two phases of finding clues in this novel, namely (1) Mrs. De Havilland’s letter and (2) Josephine's diary. Keywords: Popular Literature, Formula, Classical Detective
