Abstract
DESIGN OF CORAL REEF AQUARIUM WITH BIOPHILIC ARCHITECTURE APPROACH IN TERNATE CITY Coral reefs are facing multiple threats that are resulting in increasing damage to ocean ecosystems. The impacts of coral reef damage vary greatly depending on the level of damage to the reef. The lack of public knowledge about the importance of coral reefs for the underwater ecosystem is caused by the absence of supporting facilities that are able to provide clear and original information about the life of coral reefs. The presence of a coral reef aquarium with a biophilic architectural approach is expected to be a natural and educational facility. This step will have an impact on the development and progress of recreational facilities, and will also have a positive impact on society. The purpose of this design is to develop the potential of Ternate City that can preserve coral reefs and increase regional income from the tourism sector. Data collection techniques in this design consist of observation, survey, documentation, and literature study. After the data acquisition, data analysis will be carried out based on aspects of existing problems such as environmental and site aspects, human aspects, building aspects and design aspects. From these aspects, it is expected that a design concept will emerge that will be used in designing a coral reef aquarium with a biophilic architectural approach including site design concepts, architectural design concepts, structural design concepts and utility concepts From the results of data analysis, the design of coral reefs in ternate city has an area of 30,000 m². This aquarium design adopts the shape of a clam shell and implements the analogy into the shape, roof truss structure and building materials. This design is expected to continue to be encouraged and able to apply the principles of biophilic architecture so that humans will better understand the importance of nature conservation for the ecosystem.
