Abstract

This research is a descriptive quantitative study which aims to identify the ability to use passive sentences carried out by 28 students in the third semester of class B of the English Language Education Study Program at Khairun University. In collecting data, researchers used instruments in the form of tests. The research results showed that 3 students (11%) were in the Excellent category whose test results were in the very good category. A total of 13 students were in the Good category (47%) whose test results were in the good category. A total of 4 students were in the Sufficient category (14%) whose test results were in the quite good category. A total of 2 students were in the Fairly Sufficient category and were in the sufficient category (7%) and their test results were in the sufficient category. A total of 6 students received the Poor category (21) and their test results were in the not good category. Students have sufficient competence in using passive sentences. This is proven by data showing the average student test score is 61.80. Students' knowledge about the use of passive sentences in various contexts is still lacking. There are still obstacles in understanding sentence structure and the use of tenses, making it difficult for them to learn English, especially in the use of passive sentences.
