Hardianti Slamet (2025). Compound Words in Short Story The Star Child By Oscar Wilde. English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Khairun University Ternate. (First supervisor) Silvani Umar Ali, SS, M.Hum (Second supervisor) Yetty, SS, M.Hum. The purpose of this study is to find out the types of compound words and their meanings in the short story “The Star Child”. This research used descriptive qualitative method to explain and describe each compound word data that has been found in the short story. In collecting data in this study, the steps taken were to download and read the short story, mark and record the types of compound words, identify compound words, and classify the types of compound words. The data analysis technique used the Miles and Huberman theory with data collection, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The research showed that there are three types of compound words found and analyzed namely, 15 compound nouns as many 17%, 3 compound adjectives 14% and 3 compound verbs as many as 14%. Based on three types of compound words, compound nouns are the most frequently found and appear in the short story The Star Child.
