This study examines the understanding and mastery of political jargon in English texts among students of the English Study Program at Khairun University. The research focuses on third-semester students and aims to investigate their comprehension levels of political terminology and identify factors influencing their understanding. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data was collected through classroom observations and reflection sheets from 20 purposively selected students. The findings reveal varying levels of jargon comprehension among students. Common political terms such as "accountability," "mandate," and "endorsement" showed high comprehension rates (75-85%), while specialized terms like "gerrymandering," "lobbyist," and "filibuster" demonstrated low comprehension levels (10-30%). Key factors affecting students' understanding include cultural disconnects between Western and Indonesian political systems, limited access to comprehensive learning resources, and insufficient exposure to practical applications of political jargon in the curriculum. Students primarily relied on online resources, social media, and peer discussions to supplement their understanding of unfamiliar terms. The study also found that students better comprehended terms with local political relevance compared to Western-specific political concepts. Based on these findings, recommendations include integrating more interactive learning methods, providing access to specialized resources, and incorporating authentic political materials into the curriculum to enhance students' mastery of political jargon.
