Abstract

Rahmiyanti Ramli, (2024) : Students’ Competence in Writing Descriptive Text at English Education Study Program of Khairun University. The purpose of this study is to determine the students' writing competence of students in descriptive text in English Eeducation Study Program of Khairun University. This research method is a qualitative descriptive research. The subject of this research is the first semester Students of English Education Study Program of Khairun University. While the object of this research is students' competence in descriptive text. The researcher used simple sampling technique to take the sample. From 90 students of the total population consisting of two classes, the researcher chose 27 students as samples. In collecting data, the researcher used tests. The test was conducted to determine students' competence to write descriptive text. The result of this research showed that, the average number of points obtained by 27 respondents is 68, which shows they are generally included in the Fair category. Overall, 10 respondents are included in the Good category, which is 37% of the total. This number is relatively high compared to the rest included in other categories (Fair 30%, Poor 22%, and Very Poor 3%). The students’ competence to write descriptive text has a Limited range, with frequent errors of word/idiom form, choice, usage, and meaning confused or obscured.
