Yusriani Ode Mantra. 2024. Man and Woman Language Features in the Film of “Fences”. Thesis, English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Arts Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Khairun. Supervisor (I) Saiful Latif, S.Pd., M.Hum and Supervisor (II) Yetty, S.S., M.Hum. This study aims to find out the types of language features used by man and woman in the film “Fences” and to find out the differences between them. Using a descriptive qualitative method with sociolinguistic and gender approaches, the study analyzed primary data from the film “Fences” and secondary data from various relevant literature. The data analysis techniques included identification, coding, comparison, contextual analysis, explanation, and conclusion. The findings revealed six types of man language features, such as interrupting, frequent disputes, taboo words, minimal response, commands, and theme, as well as six types of woman language features, including politeness, hypercorrect grammar, lexical hedges or fillers, intensifiers, emphatic stress, and empty adjectives. Men tend to exhibit conversational dominance, while women display supportive and empathetic communication, reflecting differences shaped by social roles and gender expectations.
