Abstract

This research aims to examine the meanings embedded in the lyrics of the Yusa Dance, a traditional dance that is characteristic of Taliabu Island. Through the analysis of text and cultural context, this study focuses on two main objectives: explaining the use of the Yusa dance in significant events and exploring the various meanings contained in the lyrics of the Yusa dance song. To achieve the results of the research, the researcher chose to use a qualitative descriptive approach to collect research data. The primary data collection techniques included observation and interviews with local residents or the respective traditional leaders. The collected data were then rigorously analyzed through the process of data selection, classification, formulating research findings, and analyzing the research results. The results revealed several songs that fall into the examined categories of meaning, including the Golden Bird songs and also the Sonene Ngkaraya song categorized under Conceptual meaning, the Jaga Nesagong song falling into the Connotative meaning category, the affective meaning found in the Teteke Mai Mbadang song, and the social meaning identified in the lyrics of the Alang Ndari-Ndari song. This research contributes to a profound understanding of the meanings in the lyrics of songs in the Taliabu language. Keywords: Yusa Dance Song Lyrics, Meaning, Taliabu, Semantics.
