Abstract
This study aims to determine the competence of students in using "To Be" in the English Education Study Program of Khairun University. This research is a qualitative descriptive research. In collecting data, the researcher used the data analysis technique of class A second semester students totaling 30 students as subjects. In this study the researcher analyzed the students' tests to find out the use of "to be". Based on the findings and discussion, it can be concluded that the use of "To Be" among students is "To Be Present" and "To Be Past". The result is that there are two types of "To Be" that are given classification, namely; excellent (0.03%), very good (0.1%), good (0.23%), quite good (0.33%), fair (0.1%), less (0.1%), and very poor (0.1%).However, there are some students who still do not understand the use of "To Be", but most students already have competence in the use of "To Be" itself. After the analysis, the researcher found that out of 30 students there were various classifications, one student was classified as excellent, three students were classified as very good, seven students were classified as good, ten students were classified as quite good, three students were classified as sufficient, three students were classified as deficient, and three students were classified as very deficient.
