English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Khairun Ternate. (first advisor) Abdulhalim Daud, S.Pd., M.Pd. (second advisor) Susana R Bahara, S.Pd., M.Pd. Bi. The purpose of this study was to find out the use clustering technique to improve students‟ skill in writing recount text. This study used a quantitative method, the sample consisted of 25 students of class X-L SMA Negeri 2 Kota Ternate. The data collected through pretest and posttest. The data analyze and interpreted based on the aims that the result of the research can improve students‟ writing skills at SMA Negeri 2 Kota Ternate. In collecting the pretest data, essay tests were used in the from the instrument. The result of this research shown that the posttest score higher than pretest. The average score of students‟ pretest is 54,92 while the average score of posttest is 75,76. The t-statistical value is 4,98 is higher than t-critical value 1.71088 at significance level (0,05) and the degree of freedom of 24 using one tailed test. Thus, alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted that use clustering technique effective can improve students‟ writing skill and Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. So, it means that the use of clustering technique can improve students‟ writing skill. Keywords: quantitative method, writing skill, clustering technique
