Suci Wahyuni Ilyas. 2024. The Use of Discovery Learning to Improve Students’ Speaking Competence at First Grade of SMA Negeri 1Ternate.Thesis. (1) The first advisor is Dr. Agus Supriyadi, S.Pd., M.Pd and (2) the second advisor is Dr. Hujaefa Hi. Muhamad, S.Pd., M.Hum The aim of this research is to find out the use of Discovery Learning to improve students' speaking competence in the class. This research was conducted in tenth-12 students in SMA Negeri 1 Ternate with 36 students. This research used pre- experimental quantitative design which applying pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The pre-test data was obtained to find out students’ preliminary speaking before doing treatment. Treatment was carried out to find out whether the students' pre test score was better than post test score or not after implementing Discovery Learning. The researcher assessed students’ speaking by using statistical software to get pre test and post test score so it produced much better results. This is demonstrated by the mean pre test score of 55.44 and the mean post test score of 74.77 of tenth-12 students at SMA 1 with significance (0.000 < 0.05). It is easy for students to comprehend what is being taught; Discovery learning must be applied in speaking as well. Keywords: Speaking Competence, Improve, Discovery Learning.
