Abstract

he impact of misogyny in the play “The Taming Of The Shrew” by William Shakespeare.This research aims to find out and to analyze the misogyny attitude and the impact in the main character in the play “The Taming Of The Shrew” by William Shakespeare. This researcher use descriptive analysis method. This method qualitative analyzes a story, especially those contained in the play. This researcher use the data collection technique starts from reading the analysis material, internet browsing and recording important things related to the analysis of misogyny attitude and the impact of misogyny. Data analysis uses Kate Manne’s theory, namely Misogyny and use feminism approach. Based on the results of the analysis, the researcher obtained research results from two questions, 1). Misogyny attitude in the main character as reflected in the play "The Taming of The Shrew" researcher found expressions of injustice to women in which there are condescending, hatred of women and physical violence. 2). The impact of misogyny on the main character, researcher found an internal impact, namely the personality of Katherina which discusses her mental health and an external impact, namely the family environment which discusses family disharmony and injustice. The concept of misogyny in "The Taming of the Shrew" is mainly seen in the way some male characters treat women, especially Katherina misogyny attitude, thus making Katherina forced to change her behavior and strong personality to be more obedient and submissive in order to meet the standards of obedient and submissive women desired by society at that time.
