Abstract

The objective of this study is to see the extent to which using Think Talk Write learning strategy can significantly improve students’ paragraphs writing skills at SMP Negeri 7 Kota Ternate. This study used a quantitative method with a preexperimental design and one group pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research is the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Kota Ternate, and the sample of this research was class VIII B consisting of 20 students. Selected by using the convenience sampling technique. The data were collected by Pre Experimental design pre-test, treatment and post-test. In writing descriptive paragraph, students’described their friends in the pre-test and students describe their idols in the post-test. Scoring data used five writing rubric by J.B.Heaton (1988) : Content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. To calculate and analyze students’ scores, the researcher used a statistical application. The result of this research showed the t-test was higher than t-table with 12.102 ˃ 2.201 at a significance level of 5% (0.05) in the degree of fredom = 19. Were Null Hypothesis (Ho) was been rejected, while an Alternative Hypothesis (Hi) was alredy accepted. To ˃ tt indicate that the TTW strategy significantly improves students’ paragraph writing skills on the descriptive text at SMP Negeri 7 Kota Ternate.
